Tips on How to Finish Unfinished Hardwood Floors
If your floor is unfinished, you do not have to worry about the tedious task of stripping the wood. You will however have to wait maximum five days after applying the stain. Ensure that you seal off the rest of the house from that particular room where the hardwood flooring is being installed due to the chemicals being utilized in staining the hardwood flooring is flammable.
After the waiting period has passed, you want to sand the floor with a drum sander. You will want to perform this over the entire floor. Next, sand in the directions of the floorboards within the room which will smooth out the surface. Ensure that you clean up your mess by wiping up all the dust.
You will now want to apply your wood stain. Allow the stain to sit for a few minutes on the wood then wipe up the extra stain with your rags. Repeat this method section by section until the entire floor is completely stained. Allow your floor to sit overnight with the stain.
Pour your floor gloss on the floor boards most close to your wall. Apply while slowly pulling the gloss across your floor and please avoid making bubbles. Repeat this process until your entire floor is glossed. Let the floor dry overnight.
Lastly, use sandpaper to sand the floor. You will have to perform this task by hand. Sand the floor enough to take the shine off the gloss. Repeat this method. Let it dry and apply yet another layer. Let this dry before allowing traffic onto the floor.
